HOBEN'S STORY & PHILOSOPHY

Hoben Sampang (b. 1998) is a dynamic and passionate emerging mixed-media and ceramic artist from the Philippines who embarked on a creative journey with clay in July 2023. His works are profoundly influenced by the rhythmic waves of the sea, embodying an incredible spectrum of emotions that resonate with the human experience.

The water, with its endless ebb and flow, serves as a metaphor for life’s ceaseless transformation and renewal. Through the undulating dance of waves, he aims to capture the dual essence of life, from challenges and flux to moments of serenity, and employ this fluidity as a means to depict the struggles and triumphs that shape his own personal narrative.

Hoben is now currently one of Tahanan Pottery’s Emerging Artists who continuously explores the boundaries of clay as an art medium. In addition to his artistic practice, he is also a third-year medical student at St. Luke’s Medical Center - College of Medicine. Balancing the precision of medicine with the expressive freedom of art allows me to find harmony between two seemingly different yet deeply connected worlds.
